Song Structure

For this blog, I decided to go back to my 90s childhood days and listened to “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls.

It seems to use a pretty standard pop structure.  The one thing that kind of caught my interest about the structure was the use of 6 bars for the intro and about 5 bars for the outro.  I guess it keeps the song interesting, but doesn’t feel unnatural in the song. Another point that gave a song a little variety or “musical surprise” was the a Capella entrance of the second chorus.

  1. INTRO (0:05): 6 bars.
  2. Verse 1 (0:21): 8 bars.
  3. INTRO Pre-Chorus (0:35): 4 bars
  4. Chorus 1 (0:44): 8 bars
  5. Verse 2 (1:01): 8 bars
  6. INTRO Pre-Chorus 2 (1:19) 4 bars
  7. Chorus 2 (1:28): 8 bars.
  8. Bridge (1:45): 8 bars
  9. Chorus 3 (2:03): 8 bars
  10. Post-Chorus (2:20): 8 bars
  11. Outro (2:38)- 5 bars
